Most Serious Warnings

Product can cause:

  • Signs of hyperthyroidism due to excessive dosing, including nervousness, tremors, sweating, heat intolerance, or significant weight loss

  • Bone loss with long-term overtreatment

Thyroid hormones must not be used for weight loss in patients with normal thyroid function. Higher-than-recommended doses may cause serious or life-threatening toxicity  .

Who Should NOT Take This Combination Medication

Do not take this medication if you:

  • Have untreated adrenal insufficiency

  • Have untreated thyrotoxicosis (overactive thyroid)

  • Have a known hypersensitivity to levothyroxine, liothyronine, or any ingredient in the formulation 

Before Taking This Medication, Tell Your Healthcare Provider if You:

  • Have heart disease, angina, prior heart attack, or arrhythmias

  • Have high blood pressure

  • Have diabetes or use insulin or oral hypoglycemics

  • Take blood thinners such as warfarin

  • Take estrogen-containing medications or oral contraceptives

  • Take cholestyramine, colestipol, or other medications that may interfere with thyroid hormone absorption

  • Take biotin or biotin-containing supplements

  • Are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding

  • Have a history of osteoporosis

Possible Side Effects

Common (usually related to excessive dose):

  • Rapid heartbeat or palpitations

  • Nervousness or irritability

  • Sweating or heat intolerance

  • Tremor

  • Increased appetite or weight changes

  • Temporary hair loss in children during early therapy 

Serious (seek medical care immediately):

  • Chest pain or pressure

  • Severe shortness of breath

  • Fainting or severe dizziness

  • Signs of severe allergic reaction

  • Confusion or severe agitation

While Taking This Combination Medication

Tell your healthcare provider immediately if you:

  • Develop chest pain, rapid or irregular heartbeat

  • Experience new or worsening shortness of breath

  • Notice severe anxiety, tremors, or excessive sweating

  • Have symptoms of blood sugar changes if you have diabetes

  • Experience unusual bleeding or bruising while on anticoagulants

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

Thyroid hormone replacement therapy is generally continued during pregnancy in patients with hypothyroidism. Dose adjustments may be necessary. Small amounts of thyroid hormone may be present in breast milk. Discuss risks and benefits with your provider  .

Overdose

Symptoms of overdose may resemble hyperthyroidism and can include:

  • Rapid or irregular heartbeat

  • Chest pain

  • Excessive sweating

  • Nervousness or agitation

  • Fever

  • Tremors

If overdose is suspected, seek emergency medical attention or contact Poison Control right away.

Missed Dosage

If you miss a dose:

  • Take it as soon as you remember unless it is close to your next scheduled dose

  • Do not double your next dose

  • Contact your provider if you are unsure how to resume therapy

Storage

  • Store at controlled room temperature

  • Protect from light and moisture

  • Keep out of reach of children 

Medication Disposal

Dispose of unused or expired medication according to local medication disposal guidelines. Do not flush medication or dispose of it in household drains. Contact your pharmacy for disposal instructions or ask about medication take-back programs.
