Testosterone therapy may increase the risk of cardiovascular complications, including heart attack or stroke, particularly in individuals with underlying heart disease. Testosterone may also increase red blood cell count and contribute to clotting risk in certain patients.
Topical testosterone carries a secondary exposure risk. Women and children exposed to treated skin may develop unintended androgen effects. Apply only to clean, dry, intact skin as directed. Wash hands thoroughly after application, allow the area to dry completely, and cover the site with clothing. Wash the application area prior to skin to skin contact with others.
Do not use testosterone cream if you:
• Have known or suspected prostate or male breast cancer
• Have a known allergy to testosterone or any component of the formulation
• Are pregnant or breastfeeding
• Are a child or adolescent
Tell your provider if you have a history of blood clots, heart disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, sleep apnea, liver or kidney disease, prostate enlargement, or fertility concerns. Testosterone therapy may suppress sperm production and affect fertility.
Ongoing provider oversight is required. Regular lab monitoring, prostate evaluation, and clinical assessments are necessary to help ensure appropriate and safe therapy. Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration consistent with your treatment goals.
