Minocycline should not be used during pregnancy or in children under 8 years of age due to the risk of permanent tooth discoloration and effects on bone development. Do not take this medication if you are allergic to minocycline or other tetracycline antibiotics.
Before starting treatment, inform your provider if you have liver or kidney disease, a history of severe headaches or increased pressure in the brain, or if you are taking isotretinoin, blood thinners, penicillin antibiotics, ergot medications, iron supplements, or antacids containing aluminum, calcium, or magnesium. Oral contraceptives may be less effective while taking minocycline. This medication passes into breast milk and may not be appropriate while breastfeeding.
Avoid excessive sun exposure and tanning beds while taking minocycline. Take each dose with a full glass of water and complete the full course as prescribed to reduce the risk of antibiotic resistance. If you experience severe or concerning symptoms, contact your prescribing clinician or seek emergency medical care.
