Do not use progesterone if you have unexplained vaginal bleeding, active or past blood clots without provider clearance, known or suspected hormone-sensitive cancers unless directed by your provider, liver disease, or if you are pregnant.
Use caution if you have a history of blood clots, heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, depression, migraines, or fluid retention. Some formulations may contain peanut oil. Inform your provider of all prescription, over the counter, vitamin, and herbal medications you take.
Progesterone should not be used with estrogen to prevent heart disease or dementia. Studies of estrogen combined with a progestin have shown increased risks of heart attack, stroke, blood clots, breast cancer, and dementia in certain populations. Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration consistent with your treatment goals.
